Happy Family and Community Day to our hamper customers in Canberra! We hope you enjoy a day off with the family. With Spring finally (sort of) setting in, we've compiled a list of things to do in ACT for you! Canberra has a range of family-friendly things to do, so let’s jump in!

#1 Questacon

Questacon is a family favourite and the current Above and Beyond exhibition is a great interactive flight exhibition to ke. Space exploration and missions for all ages – there are engaging and exciting activities for all! Alternatively, escape to the Questacon Science Garden and experience the Spring Holiday Science Tours. There’s also a liquid nitrogen show for the science kids.

#2 Lake Burley Griffin

Take the family out for a little exercise – you can rent bikes, kayaks, canoes, or try your hand at stand-up paddle boarding or fishing. If that’s too much effort, you can also pack a picnic and enjoy the lovely views in the afternoon. Sounds like a win-win situation to us!


#3 Floriade

Floriade is in Canberra for the 30th year from Saturday 16 September until Sunday 15 October! There’s other fun activities like Perfume Testing and Morning Walks. This floral festival would be lovely for all ages young and old. Markets, tasting plates, amusement rides and live performances – truly something for everyone! By visiting this year you can also help support the National Breast Cancer Foundation and GIVIT.

#4 Cockington Green

Want to escape Canberra city? Take a short 15-minute drive to Cockington Green, a family favourite, for a day and explore the gardens and miniature architecture. You will literally have the world at your feet, and kids will look like giants in the landscaped gardens. Enjoy some steam train rides and dolls houses. A lot of family photo opportunities and memories to create.

#5 National Museum Australia Towers of Tomorrow with Lego Bricks

With the certified LEGO® bricks by Aussie LEGO professional Ryan McNaught, you can see wonderful sculptures of skyscrapers from around the world. These iconic buildings will have you in awe. You can also create your own towers with 200,000 LEGO bricks in the hands-on construction areas. Get their early to start building!

#6 National Dinosaur Museum

Take a journey back in time to see 23 complete dinosaur skeletons and over 300 individual fossils. With so many possible fossils to see, kids will surely be fascinated to learn about the extinct animals. Come face to face with these giant creatures and let your imagination run wild.

#7 Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve

Australia’s native animals like the koala, kangaroo, possums and many reptiles are in their natural habitat. They’ll be wandering around with you. There are many scenic areas and viewpoints as well as hikes you can embark on. There’s also a playground and indigenous activities for the kids. The weather will be a bit cold, so rug up and pack a cosy little picnic!

#8 Namadgi National Park

Explore Australia’s history and discover the Aboriginal heritage, with wonderful birdlife, picnic and fishing spots You’ll be able to see Gibraltar Falls and Booroomba Rocks to name a few attractions in the area. After a long day of exploring, you can end the after afternoon with a picnic or barbeque.

#9 Mount Ainslie

If you want to brave the cold, why not take the family for a hike up Mount Ainslie for a scenic view of Canberra. The lookout is amazing, and would count for some nice family bonding time.
